England Explore for World Cup Bases Amidst Concerns of Losing Preferred Base to Holland.

England's football governing body has dispatched operational staff to the America this week to look at potential bases for the forthcoming global finals, amidst increasing concerns that their first-choice site could be allocated by the Dutch national team.

Draw Complications Change Arrangements

Head coach Thomas Tuchel had earlier approved an FA strategy for England to be based in Kansas after a pre-tournament training camp in Fort Lauderdale. Yet, following the recent group stage draw, there are now concerns that the Netherlands, who play their group games in Kansas, will be awarded priority on the desired facility at Sporting Kansas City—a state-of-the-art centre used by US Soccer.

The world governing body assigns training bases according to geography and FIFA rankings if there is competition, with the draw possibly pitting the FA in competition with the Netherlands and Argentina for bases in the tournament's south-central region.

Exploring Other Sites

Given England's group fixtures set to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now reportedly investigating other locations on the US East Coast. The FA started its scouting process for training camps at the start of the year, with Tuchel and director of football John McDermott touring potential locations during the Club World Cup last summer.

Despite this early planning, there was always an acceptance that the official tournament draw could drastically change their plans.

Knockout Stage Logistics Plans

The Three Lions face the eighth most arduous group stage draw in terms of travel distance. Winning Group L would put England on track for a round of 32 game in Atlanta, followed by potential round of 16 tie in Mexico City.

  • Major Departure: The FA may opt to choose to move between venues for the later rounds if England qualify, a major shift from its usual practice of maintaining a single tournament base.
  • FIFA Encouragement: FIFA is understood to be actively encouraging such a flexible strategy for the expansive 2026 tournament.

Once the base camp is confirmed, the FA will focus on scheduling two pre-tournament matches in Florida at the beginning of June.
