The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a major honors show draws close, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types actually cover many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
